Summary: Fantastic Old Movie Music 2008-11-10
Comment: If you like old movies like I do, then you'll enjoy this fine CD of Vintage Cinema from Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops. Max Steiner's great King Kong main title begins the disc, very well performed. Two composers of Alfred Hitchcock film music are included: the suite from Spellbound (Miklos Rozsa), and the overture to North by Northwest (Bernard Herrmann), played at an excitingly quick tempo. The Cincinnati Pops perform flawlessly under Kunzel's smooth direction, gliding through vintage film music composed by both Bernsteins (Leonard and Elmer), Aaron Copland, Erich Korngold, and the others mentioned above. An altogether delightful disc, warmly recommended!
