The 1997 Academy Award winner for Best Dramatic Score, James Horner's Titanic was the first soundtrack to reach the No. 1 slot on the Billboard charts in two decades; it also seemed to rival the Big Mac in sales for the year. And what can we say about Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On"; would "ubiquitous" suffice?

Horner's combination of synths, chorale, and orchestra perfectly underscores the action in director James Cameron's 20th-century melodrama. It's a finely honed piece of Hollywood craftsmanship from a composer who has tackled more musically adventuresome projects in his career. FYI: Horner's follow-up to Titanic was the score for a different disaster: Deep Impact. --Jerry McCulley

Summary: Excellent soundtrack!! 2010-03-11
Comment: I realize that I'm a tad late on writing this review since the movie came out 13 years ago. But, better late than never right? Even after 13 years, the movie is still awesome. One of the specs that made it awesome and also won an academy award was its musical score. It won 11 academy awards in fact, including best picture. Bottom line, if you don't own it, even after 13 years it's not too late! Go and buy it along with the soundtrack. Both of them are superb. The movie is great to watch and the music is griping to listen too. Every year I drag this out of the closet and watch it. And every time I am still moved by the music and cinematography. Definitely a must own!

Summary: Titanic soundtrack by James Horner 2010-02-05
Comment: Titanic soundtrack to the film of the same name was composed, orchestrated and conducted by James Horner. The soundtrack was released by Sony Classical on November 18, 1997, became the highest-selling primarily orchestral film score in history. Number one in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, with worldwide sales surpassing 30 million copies.
Horner is noted for frequent use of Celtic musical elements, and the integration of choral and electronic elements in many of his film scores, in certain tracks, Horner made use of a digital choir instead of a real one.
Celine Dion sang the film's signature song "My Heart Will Go On" written by James Horner and Will Jennings, this ballad won four Grammy Awards and reached number-one in more than twenty-five countries.
I'm rating this music CD with 5 stars !

Summary: Titanic Music 2009-12-20
Comment: This track has a beautiful melody to it, which spells of love even if you have not seen the movie. There are aspects in which the music changes to a dramatic tone to accompany the movie's eventful dangerous aspects, but I think it adds variety to the soundtrack. You do not need to see the movie to truly enjoy the music. My husband went many months listening regularly to this music and thoroughly enjoyed - even before he saw the movie.

Summary: Long Songs! 2009-11-11
Comment: The music is great to listen to and the songs are so long. Great CD to insert, "Play" and leave alone. Great background music.
