Don't have the time (or the props) to watch the whole movie? Just put on the soundtrack--it's got all the best parts without the dialog in-between! Well, isn't that what an Original Soundtrack Recording like this is supposed to be? Back in the mid-70s when The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a midnight staple at countless movie theaters, Tim Curry wasn't yet "Tim Curry" and Susan Sarandon wasn't yet "Susan Sarandon" (hell, Barry Bostwick wasn't even "Barry Bostwick"!). Listening to these science-fiction double-feature showtunes will take you back through a time warp to the days when the now-Academy-Award-winning actress was perfectly willing to stand around for most of a picture in her bra and panties--and so would her boyfriend! In those days, they were just Brad and Janet, forced to spend a dark and stormy (also sexy) night in the haunted house of mad scientist Frank N. Furter--just a sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania-ha-ha who really knew how to belt out a song. Those were the days. --Jim Emerson

Summary: The Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack 2010-08-15
Comment: I love this soundtrack so much. I put off hunting down a copy of the soundtrack for years; but now I finally have a copy. I was disappointed to about some things missing from this soundtrack.

There were two songs which were deleted from the picture show, "Once in a while" sang by Barry Bostwick, and "Superheroes" sang by Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon. "Superheroes" is featured on this version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack but "Once in a While" is not. I love the latter so much; I was sad to discover in wasn't on the cd.

I had hoped that a little bit of the dialogue surrounding the songs would be included but it is not. Other versions of this soundtrack do include this.

The soundtrack is great; just be forewarned about those things.

Comment: Bless my soul, there's no "Sword of Damoclese" on the album. That's the start of a pretty big downer.

Summary: It's fun. Very enjoyable, but must see the movie first ( in a theater and with all the crowd screaming...) 2010-05-22
Comment: This is REAL FUN. If at least once, you was present in a full packed theater, with Frank N' Furter style dressed people screaming to death I'M A SWEET TRANSVESTITIE!! and throwing Rice and water and all the ritual supposed to be done along the screening.
Then, this experience return to You, every single time you play this record,(that still stand by itself in terms of music).
If you did not participate of this event, hardly will understand why some people do make a cult out of it.
I personally do not enjoy massive concerts or cultural events. But this case is a very different thing.
I don't have information for this continuing to be screened as it used to be in many countries for every week end, and even less with the screaming crowd going to do the show, but if you find it. GO! And then buy the record. It will be very hard when you play it not to sing along and wish to get free jumping and dancing.
I was extremely young those days, but hope people nowadays could be naive enough to do it again and enjoy so much as it used to be.
