For this Nancy Meyers-directed romantic comedy, Hans Zimmer serves up a breezy score quite different from the more heavy-duty works he's become known for. This may have something to do with the film's tone, of course, but also with the fact that Zimmer has sole credit on only two cues, having co-written the others with members of his extensive stable of helpers, including guitarist Heitor Pereira and even pop artist Imogen Heap (who also contributes wordless vocals in addition to getting writing credits on three tracks). In the film, Jack Black's character is a composer who namedrops Ennio Morricone; Zimmer steps up to the challenge with the opening track, "Maestro" (one of his solo compositions), which evidently seeks to emulate the romantic sweep of some of Morricone's scores and nearly succeeds. (This may sound like a criticism but getting near Morricone level is nothing to sneeze at.) A little later "Verso e Prosa," a collaboration between Pereira and Herb Alpert--who contributes his immediately identifiable trumpet--also stands out. If the rest of the CD had shown as much spirited zest as these two tracks, the album could have become a prized addition to any soundtrack lover's library; alas, the other cues are too devoid of personality to make a lasting impression. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Summary: The Holiday Soundtrack 2008-09-19
Comment: The Holiday is one of my wife's favorite movies. She loved the music so much, she asked me to buy her the soundtrack. Beautifully composed music that makes one feel they are on a magical holiday in England or California.

Summary: The Holiday music track 2008-09-19
Comment: The music from The Holiday was better than I expected. It doesn't play all the songs from the movie such as Winter Wonderland or You Send Me.It has the music composed by Hans Zimmer. If you loved the movie, the minute this music starts you will be able to visualise each scene. It's great to listen to this album as background music when you need to relax.

Summary: Holiday SoundTrack Lacks Songs 2008-08-25
Comment: So disappointed, they didn't have the song Just for Now or any other captivating songs from the movie. It's very deceptive. I should have read the reviews before buying but this was the first time I had this happen.... BE on guard!!! You won't get the actual SOUNDTRACK, just background music from the movie. There were songs that Cameron Diaz sang along with and then the song that Kate Winnslet (sp) woke up to, but you won't find it on this CD. You also won't find the song "Darling You send me" they play at the end of the movie. I love the melody from the music as it transforms you to that place of love but this CD will leave you very annoyed!

Summary: Wonderful But Missing Movie Songs 2008-04-02
Comment: I loved this movie so much and equally love this CD it's absolutely beautiful. I love buying soundtracks after a great movie but I am so frustrated when they don't include all the movies songs after all isn't that why we purchase these Cd's so we can be transported back to the movie. I think they should have to note on the outside of the CD case "Does Not Contain All Music From Movie" as it happens so often and this one was no exception as several were missing here to :o(

Summary: Great Movie Soundtrack 2008-03-08
Comment: This is a cute romantic comedy. Fairly predictable overall, but some great scenes and the cast is fun. The soundtrack is wonderful- varied and uplifting. Hans Zimmer is one of my favorites and he doesn't disappoint in this one. Very sophisticated sound- even my 7 year old loves "Cry".
