I know it's a lot of money at first BUT it pays for itself very quickly. I am STILL listening to this set's early discs over and over before I get to the later episodes. Just savoring it. I don't know whether to write this review as a Trek fan or a music score fan but I imagine more Trek people who like music will pick it up than music people who like Trek. Could be wrong there but it doesn't matter. This is great material, lovingly presented. One of the beautiful aspects here is that Ron Jones' seriously under-appreciated music can shine out from under some terrible episodes. Yes, Next Gen had clunkers in it from time to time, particularly early in its run. It is absolutely fantastic to hear in your face exciting music the way Next Gen should have had all the way through. I know McCarthy and Chattaway and all the other great composers Trek had were only doing what the boss said but Trek truly benefits from music winning out over sound effects. Well, it didn't happen much,...Read more

I have absolutely no complaints about this product. Although it has a bit of a hefty price tag associated with it, it's immediately apparent why this box set costs so much. This CD Box set contains all of the music Ron Jones composed for Star Trek with the only exception being the majority of the score from "The Best of Both Worlds" which was released by GNP Crescendo Records in September of 1991 (GNP still holds licensing on those recordings).
THE MUSIC
All music cues are in the order they appeared in the episodes from the opening scene to the closing scene of the show.

DISC 2 - "The Battle", "Datalore", "11001001" (Total Play Time 75:38)
DISC 3 - "When the Bough Breaks" and "Heart of Glory" (Total Play Time 53:18. This is the complete score from "Heart of Glory", again, in the...Read more
Ron Jones Is A Genius,

First let me say that I totally agree with the writer of the previous review on this set - we definately do need more star trek score sets like this one. I have already bought this set myself and I absolutely love it. I never realized how beautifully suspenseful Jones's music for TNG was. Especially in season one! In the episode "Skin Of Evil", Jones's scoring is almost a character of its own. Double Star is the first couple of minutes of the episode "Evolution", which was also the season premier of season three, and it moves me to tears every time I hear it. Jones's music is also beautiful, suspenseful, and noticeable in every episode that he scored. I know I will cherish this 14 cd set for the rest of my life. By the way, if anyone out there is wondering why Ron Jones disappeared from Star Trek after season four of TNG: let me set the record straight. Rick Berman fired him saying that his music called too much attention to itself. Berman said that music is there to enhance...Read more
