The music is lush with a full rich orchestra playing the episodes soundtracks interconnected into full suites. These were newly recorded (1985) soundtracks by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra that rendered virtually the entire episodes. This was the first Volume of a two volume set. You can almost follow the unspoken dialogue in each of the two selections on this immersive album. Although the episodes selected for this first volume were not my favorites, they did offer the unique selections seldom or never heard in other episodes, unlike some episodes that consisted of pieces from the precanned music library. If you purchase this album, I highly recommend the superior second volume, with 4 episodes/suites, to complete this set.

I bought the companion to this CD as an LP record back in the 1980s. Recently, while transferring that LP to CD, I searched for this CD issue as I never owned it. Of course I found it on Amazon and now I have both Volumes 1 and 2. The original (and best) Star Trek had great music. Compared to the unimaginative stuff on current TV shows, this is a cut above.
