By A Customer This review is from: Star Trek: Spock's World (Book On CD) (Audio CD) Diane Duane is, IMHO, one of the best Trek authors to grace the business. She has a true grasp of Vulcan culture and attitude; that's one of the things I liked best about this story, is that it flips back and forth between present-day political situations on Vulcan (a desire to secede from the federation) and the evolution of culture on Vulcan. The book is sprinkled with humor in just the right proportion; the characterizations are dead-on perfect. Sarek and Amanda are well-done, and even T'Pau makes an appearance. The only thing that detracts from the book is that it presents a view of current Vulcan politics that isn't quite canon - that's why it only gets four stars from me. However, as far as the story goes, it's excellent; I really *like* the non-canon ideas that Duane presents, and the book is probably worth five stars story-wise.
