For anyone who enjoys the irreverent humor of South Park, there's plenty of it on this soundtrack. Stan, Kenny, Kyle, Eric, Sharon, Sheila, Terrance... all step up to the mic and deliver in a way the Chipmunks (their obvious musical influence) would never dare. The use of certain four- and five-letter words make this a less-than-appropriate gift for young 'uns, lest you be misled by the characters' cartoon status. Musically, it's mostly swooning cartoon music capped by the incessant ranting of the main characters. By the time you get to Michael McDonald, you may wonder what this "sophisticated" adult-contemporary singer is doing among the children of South Park and Saddam Hussein. Even Isaac Hayes performs not as a late-night Lothario but as his South Park character, Chef. His track is one of the eight that don't appear in the film but have been added to flesh things out. Weirdest of all: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush performing a straight rendition of "O Canada." Huh? --Rob O'Connor

Summary: It's easy to see why you have to purchase the whole album... 2009-07-23
Comment: ...because if you could just download the individual songs, the second half of the album (the tracks *inspired* by the movie and not *in* the movie save for one) would be easily be left to the ages by all. Still, the first half is easily worth the entry fee for South Park fans and as such feels a lot less draining than buying a half good CD.

Summary: Hilarious movie, hilarious soundtrack with great extras 2009-01-19
Comment: If you're considering buying this CD, it's pretty likely you've already seen the movie, so you know the songs are laugh-aloud funny. I can play them again and again, and laugh every time. Yes, it's potty humor, but so clever, and the songs themselves are catchy and as good (or better) than most "legit" musicals. The first time I heard Saddam and Satan's duet "I Can Change" I thought, "somebody else ought to record that. It's actually a great song." When the CD arrived, I was thrilled to discover the bonus tracks of known singers/groups doing these songs. The Violent Femmes version of "I Can Change" immediately went on my iPod! For me, that alone was worth the price of the CD. (There's also a version of Big Gay Al's "I'm Super" by RuPaul, which is just a funny concept, although I prefer BGA's original version.)
