The songs have been forever etched into our collective counsicousness (haven't we all sung 'Whistle While You Work' to dampen the drudgery of house work), it's themes are timless and the score is beautiful. A lot of the dialog leading up to and out of the songs in Snow White is spoken in verse and has been included here. It's a great addition that really makes this soundtrack a partial retelling of the story. For a score recored before stero was invented, Snow White sounds amazing! The re-mastering work done here is really incredible. You'll be hard pressed to find a better sounding recording from this time. As a collectors item, this is not only a score to Disney's first animated feature film, but also the worlds first soundtrack. Up to this point soundtracks were made up of renditions of songs featured in a film. Disney forever changed that by including the original recordings as they appeared in the film itself...Read more 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Walt Disney's Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: Classic Soundtrack Series (Audio CD) This was the first of the newly remastered and expanded "Disney classic soundtracks" that I purchased for my collection, and it's still my favorite. How wonderful to have, not only the vocals from the old vinyl version ("I'm Wishing/One Song," "With a Smile and a Song," "Heigh-Ho," "Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum," "The Dwarfs' Yodel Song" (and if you don't want to get up and dance to it, there's something wrong with you!), and "Some Day My Prince Will Come"), but the background instrumentals from the track, never before available to the at-home audience. The "Queen Theme," the chilling "Far Into the Forest," and "I've Been Tricked" particularly bring scenes from the movie springing to mind. There are also two songtracks that were cut from the film print. If you're a Disney-lover, your collection must positively include this CD. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By KoSpazz "KoSpazz" (Upland, CA, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs (Audio CD) This restoration was released several years ago, but I just recently bought it.
My review title pretty much sums it up... I don't know what the original reels sounded like, but this finished result sounds great! There are some occasional hisses, pops and imperfections in the audio tracks... but what do you expect from something originally released in 1937?! My only gripe is that the chorus of "God voices" sounds really distant (like they're singing through a wall), but I assume that's just how it was recorded 70 years ago, so I can't really complain about anything. The soundtrack is surprisingly developed for a film of its age, and historically it is a milestone because it was the first film to have its actual soundtrack (not just arrangements or highlights) released. The other thing that I LOVE about it is that all the tracks are placed in the CORRECT order on the album. I absolutely hate that the Little Mermaid and...Read more |
