4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but something's missing, February 25, 2003

If you're a fan of the Smallville series you'll notice one glaring omission from this CD: The Calling's "Wherever You Will Go" This was played in Episode 2 when Clark was returning Lana's kryptonite necklace. To many people, that was the show's "anthem," if you wish, that captured everything about Clark's feelings for Lana. Otherwise, this is a pretty representative CD of the show. The banner songs are there: Remy Zero's "Save Me" and Five For Fighting's "Superman". Von Ray's "Inside Out" and Weezer's "Island In The Sun" take you back into the halls of Smallville High. Sixpence's "Don't Dream It's Over" is a remarkable remake version I think, very much the Talon experience! My personal favorite is Eva Cassidy's "Time After Time" rendition, sang during Whitney's father's funeral. What an emotional rendition! I'm not as enthusiastic with the inclusion of Phantom Planet's "Lonely Day" and The...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Super Soundtrack for a Super Show, February 25, 2003

I just bought the CD today and it's wonderful! The show is one of the best retellings of the Superman legend. Here is a breakdown of the songs:1. Save Me - Remy Zero (The Opening Theme, Remy Zero's straight ahead rocker, awesome song!)2. Inside Out - VonRay
3. Island In The Sun - Weezer
4. Superman - Five For Fighting (Of Course, No Superman Soundtrack should be without this song. It's filled with wonder of a Superman knowing that he's got powers but is human at heart.)
5. Nuclear - Ryan Adams
6. Lonely Day - Phantom Planet
7. Fight Test - The Flaming Lips
8. Don't Dream It's Over - Sixpence None The Richer (A cover of the 80's hit by Crowded House - But it's given a softer alt. touch, but works for the CD)
9. Wave Goodbye - Steadman
10. I Just Wanna Be Loved - AM Radio
11. Everything - Lifehouse (Used at the end of the Pilot ep. It expresses Clark's feelings for Lana at the beginning of the 1st season. It's a beautiful moving...Read more

If you want to relive the moments of Smallville, this CD will be an excellent companion for you "die-hard" fans. Most of the tracks emulate the mood of the show, with memorable songs like "Don't Dream It's Over" by Sixpence None The Richer, "Everything" by Lifehouse, "Time After Time" by Eva Cassidy, and of course, the "opening title" song, "Save Me" by Remy Zero, in which the band also appeared in the first season's cliffhanger finale. I was disappointed, however, that "Wherever you will go" by The Calling, didn't make the final 12 tracks. In my opinion, it set the tone for the "rollercoaster" relationship between Lana and Clark and makes you think of the times that made you say out loud, "Dammit, Clark!". Despite this, the 12 tracks and the bonus "enhanced" material (playable on a PC) are well worth the cost. If you are an avid fan, and you want to reminisce over the episodes of Smallville, this CD is a "must-buy"...
