Summary: Wonderful Musical 2007-01-02
Comment: First of all, let me say that you should probably attempt to get the entire cast recording or, better yet, the DVD if at all possible. Still, this is one of the most beautiful musicals I have ever seen, along with Notre Dame de Paris, Les Miserables, etc. The casting is, for the most part, perfect; Damien Sargue (Romeo) has a classically wonderful voice and Cécilia Cara (Juliette) has a clear, pure voice which both fits the role and is a refreshing change from the loud, obnoxious voices one often finds in American theatre.
While in my opinion some of the best songs are missing, anyone should be able to enjoy this selection as well. While I'm a French major and so had little difficulty understanding the lyrics, it should help that this story is so well-known by English speakers and that the singers' voices convey emotion quite well. Highly recommended!

Summary: My favorite CD of all time 2005-12-30
Comment: I bought this CD and immediately fell in love with it. This is a very fun musical and so romantic to listen to, perhaps because of the French language. The lyrics are heartfelt and beautiful and Damien Sargue, who plays Romeo is extremely talented and has an absolutely amazing voice! The best songs are Verone, J'ai Peur, Les Rois du Monde, Les Beaux, les Laids, Et Voila Qu'elle Aime, On Dit Dans La Rue, and Avoir une Fille.

Summary: fantastic DVD and CD 2005-01-18
Comment: I was in Paris on vacation and saw the "making of .." on TV, which led me to the nearest store to buy the DVD. I have had it now for over a year and the powerful music just continues to ring in my ears .. you just cant get it out of your head. I bought the CD so I could listen to it wherever I am. I agree with the other reviewers that the producers should have added English subtitles. The music is fantastic and the story familiar but I would have been able to appreciate it more with the lyrics. Dont get me wrong, its still worth it and certainly worth its cost. (In fact I bought two copies of the CD!) All the singers are great and the songs really touch you, every one of them. You can play it all day and not get sick of it.
I recommend that you buy not just the CD but also the DVD --the sets are breathtaking, production numbers absolutely artful and so emotion-filled. I am not really a theater enthusiast but do enjoy good music and can appreciate good actors. I am so glad I discovered this musical in a most unexpected way. It is one of my best memories of Paris.

Summary: Do Not Miss This!! 2004-03-18
Comment: Ran across this purely by accident loved the voices so much that I ordered the DVD & the Complete CD of Show from Amazon.FR - The show is very unique - the Death figure is wonderful. May not be as smooth as NOTRE DAME DE PARIS however its is extremely enjoyable. My 19 and 17 year olds who will not watch it are none the less humming the tunes. Mercutio & Tybalt are grand. Romeo is excellent, Juliet is sweet & the other cast members are very enjoyable. The only drawback is that there is no English translation in CD or English subtitles on DVD. My French speaking sister translated for me - My recomendation is find a french student or teacher, share it with them & you'll have a wonderful time. Even if you don't get it translated, the show is worth seeing - the subjects are universal and subtitles only enhance your enjoyment of the subtilties of story - you will understand the emotions.

Summary: Wonderful music, but the choice of songs is so-so 2003-01-05
Comment: Try to get your hands on a full-recording CD, which has all the songs. This is only "the best of" CD, and it's definitely not the best of. This is missing the beautiful instrumental Le Bal, the very sad and haunting Demain, and a few very other good numbers. On the other hand, J'sais plus, sung by the Friar, is wholly unremarkable, as are the Avoir une Fille, sung by Signor Capuletti and Le Povoir, sung by the Prince. The CD has a number of good songs, but would have been better with the ones it's excluded.
