Product Review
Amazon.com essential recording

With the help of producer Tony Brown, George Strait redefined his relationship to the contemporary country mainstream with this 1992 soundtrack album, which became the bestselling single release of his career. In the movie, Strait portrays a country star who walks away from the smoke and mirrors to get back to his down-home roots. The ballad "When Did You Stop Loving Me" is as pure country as it gets in this day and age, while "The King of Broken Hearts" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends" introduced Strait's audience to an exceptionally gifted songwriter named Jim Lauderdale. --Rick Mitchell

Summary: The beginning of George's corruption 2008-06-26
Comment: With Tony Brown at the helm, what could have been a fabulous country album turned into a pop-sounding, over-hyped album, that tried (and succeeded) to increase George Strait's popularity to the masses. I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but the music is not the George Strait who was always so true to his western swing and honkytonk roots. Tony Brown took every Strait album afterward and did the same thing; taking away from the crooner's extreme vocal talent, and inserting mainstream sound (via posers like Garth Brooks, and later - Tim McGraw). I still love George's songs, but I prefer music from "Strait Country" until "Holding my Own".

Oh, by the way, George Strait and Alan Jackson's duet "Murder on Music Row" should have included Tony Brown's name. Not only did he dilute George's sound, but also Reba McEntire's, among others!

Comment: This product was bought as a gift for someone else. I guess you always take a chance when you buy something sight unseen. I was very pleased with the condition that it was in and had no quirms about giving it as a gift. The recipient was ecstatic over it and thought I was the best person in the world. The sound is fabulous delivery was well timed( in time for Christmas ).

Thank you.

Summary: Pure Country - Pure Gold 2006-11-18
Comment: I've been a Strait Fan since 1980, but the Pure Country movie and soundtrack led a lot of people to becoming George Strait Fans. This album is pure gold - pure platinum!!!!!!!!! Even the song sung with his son is good.
I would advise them to get into some of his earlier music. If you can't get his other albums, buy Strait out of the Box.
