28 of 31 people found the following review helpful:  Disney Musicals are BACK!!!, This review is from: The Princess and the Frog (Audio CD) I have just purchased this soundtrack and may I say, THANK YOU DISNEY for bringing this timeless era to life again! The Jazz Age is my favorite genre of music and the 1920's is my ABSOLUTE favorite time in history. And Randy Newman's songs and score are so well put together! Disney's renaissance era(The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, etc.) would be so proud, in terms of music. Now I will admit it doesn't have that same intensity then the great Alan Menken's scores, but Randy Newman is dead behind him. Now dispite the contraversy and racism(the first african american princess, her getting turned into a frog, the time period, and the black magic), this is now the time for change and this movie will prove that you can look past all that and enjoy it, like ALL Disney movies do. Set in New Orleans at the turn of the century, and loosely based on the classic fairytale The Frog Prince by the Brothers Grimm, it tells the tale of Prince Naveen, who travels to the Big Easy in search of fun and jazz music, but who is cursed by the evil witch doctor Facilier, and turned into a frog. Knowing that only the kiss of a princess will return him to human form, Naveen searches desperately for the traditional cure for his ailment; unfortunately, he mistakes waitress Tiana for royalty and the kiss backfires and turns Tiana into a frog too! Desperate for answers, Naveen and Tiana journey deep into the bayou to search for an ancient voodoo priestess who may be the only one who can help...

I got it as a gift for Christmas after seeing the movie a few weeks ago and I cannot stop listening to it! Even my dad loves it, though he hasn't seen the movie yet. The song styles are all very different, my favorites being "Down in New Orleans" and "When We're Human". This CD just makes make me want to dance! |
