The best thing about this soundtrack can be summed up in two words: Ben Folds. His contributions (written to match the film, instead of just being plopped down there by marketing execs) are among his best work, and based on this alone his fans--and all lovers of melodic pop--should get this CD. Folds starts things off on a high point with "Family of Me," which sounds like a cross between Brian Wilson and ELO. Alas, it also lasts only a minute and a half: Couldn't we have had an extended version for the CD, especially since the lovely ballad "Still" gets a reprise that lasts longer and builds up to a grandiose finish? The third new track written, performed, and produced for the album by Folds is the upbeat, super-catchy "Heist." Folds also contributes a peppy, kid-friendly cover of the Clash's "Lost in the Supermarket" (already one of that band's most accessible early offerings) and a new take on his own "Rockin' the Suburbs" with new lyrics and a special guest rant by William Shatner. The balance of the tracks is made up of Rupert Gregson-Williams's agreeable score (check out "Let's Call It Steve" for an unwitting tribute to Danny Elfman). --Elisabeth Vincentelli

And if they are anything like me they've played all of the Ben Folds tracks over and over and have listened to none of the rest. Which is unfortunate becasue the rest is just as strong as Folds' tracks. Tracks like "Let's Call it Steve" and "Play?" come to mind with "Hammy Time" taking the lead. Rupert Gregson-Williams' peices are great to listen to, so if you need more that just "It's got Ben Folds" to convince you, Gregson-Willams' tracks fill out the album with superb orchestrated peices that are fun to listen to and make this the best soundtrack CD I've heard, which, granted, I haven't heard alot. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: Great Movie, Great Soundtrack, Great Album!, By This review is from: Over The Hedge (Audio CD) This is a great album that not only fans of the movie or fans of Ben Folds but anyone that comes across it would enjoy. When watching the movie (which has an excellent package of features on DVD by the way) I just had to keep watching the credits as I realised Ben Folds has rewritten his great song Rockin' the Suburbs. From that moment I knew I had to obtain that song but that by no means is the only great song on this album. Lost in the Supermarket, Heist, Still and Family or Me are all sensational. The classical style musical scores by Rupert Gregson-Williams are also a pleasure to listen to and will bring back memories of scenes in the film every time they play.My only criticism of the album is that it could have included a few sound bites from the movie like RJ's comments about humans as five/ten second tracks like a lot of other soundtracks, especially children's movie albums do. I was looking for a song from this cd ran across the Ben Folds original songs and while it/they are funny, it isn't kid appropriate unless they are 15 or older.The cd has 13 great tracks! 1.
