Maybe this music by Prince & the Revolution will never quite sound as, well, revolutionary as it did in 1984 (and nothing else has ever sounded like the extraordinary cooing and fluttering of "When Doves Cry"), but it's a pop landmark in Prince's Artist-ic career. The hit movie was really just a big-screen showcase for Prince to perform these songs (some of them in tear-the-roof-off "live" versions set in a Minneapolis club). I don't know why that warped sermonette introduces "Let's Go Crazy" (one thing you've got to love about Prince: he's always been weird), but somehow I'm glad it's there. Other highlights include the sexual scorcher "Darling Nikki" (with its crazy backwards coda) and that anthemic title tune. Don't you miss Wendy and Lisa, too? --Jim Emerson

Summary: Purple Rain Soundtrack 2010-04-06
Comment: This album was a gift for my husband. We both love Prince, but agree that all of his best work was done in the 1980s. All of these songs are awesome and we love the album.

Summary: Discontinued! That's outrageous! 2010-02-17
Comment: I never thought this classic album, Purple Rain, would be discontinued by the Manufacturer. Purple Rain is more than just a film that starred Prince. It's probably his finest work to date with songs like "When Doves Cry," "Purple Rain," "I would die for you," "Let's Go Crazy," and others on this compact disc or album or audio cassette are unforgettable, unique, and part of the 1980s MTV generation. Prince and the Revolution were themselves a revolution with the unforgettable almost x-rated film. Purple Rain, the movie and the music, remain classic because they still live up today. Much like Michael Jackson's Thriller, Prince has Purple Rain as one of his best-selling works. Still regardless of technical reasons or manufacturing problems, Purple Rain should never never ever be out of stock or out of production. It's timeless, revolutionary, and part of the MTV generation.

Summary: The beautiful ones always smash the picture... 2010-02-11
Comment: If you haven't figured it out: this is a classic album. I'm STILL listening to the album 24 years later. I just wish he would remaster the album but one thing I've noticed is that Prince doesn't look back. That's why he's never remastered any of his music. If you've heard all the songs, I recommend that you track down the extended versions of some of the songs. The dance version of Let's Go Crazy is on Ultimate Prince but the others are harder to come by. There is also an extended versions of The Beautiful Ones, Computer Blue and Darling Nikki. All worth hearing. You will see the master at his finest and know why this album is awesome.

Summary: The Prince Becomes A King 2010-02-03
Comment: Purple Rain is one of the gold standard albums in music history. Music's most talented, most versatile & gifted musician takes us on a joy ride for the ages with 9 perfectly crafted songs. Prince not only made a classic soundtrack but also made a cult classic film. Prince became a king in the music business with this classic gem.

P.S. for the 15 lames who rated this album 3 stars or less needs their heads examined. Step ya game up!

Summary: Baby Prince Is A Mega Star 2010-01-28
Comment: At my school most of the people I know stick to listening to Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Journey, and safe stuff like that. Well I'm proud to listen to Prince! You wouldn't believe how many people don't know a Prince song or even what he looks like.

Purple Rain is the greatest soundtrack of all time. The only one that comes close is The Beatles's A Hard Days Night. Here is what I think of every song:

Lets Go Crazy - The opening of this is brilliant. I also love the guitar playing at the end. 5/5

Take Me With U - This was the lowest charting single from the album but it is one of my personal favorite. It has a charm to it. 5/5

The Beautiful Ones - My first experience of this song was on Mariah Carey's Butterfly. Prince really sings his heart out but I honestly like Mariah's version better. Check out both of them. 5/5

Computer Blue - I love the intro to this song with Wendy and Lisa talking. This probally would have been a hit if it was released as a single. 5/5

Darling Nikki - Probally one of Prince's most famouse songs. It shows that he is a good story teller and if you didn't know this created the parental advisory sticker. Thanks Prince... 5/5

When Doves Cry - This is the all time greatest song of the 80s. Can you think of a better one? In the begining you can really picture the setting of where the song takes place. It is relating doves crying to people fighting. 5/5

I Would Die 4 U - It took a while to grow on me but this is a really addicting song. It was a huge hit. 5/5

Baby I'm A Star - "I ain't got no money but I'm rich in personality." That is my favorite line from the album. I think the song is about someone trying to prove to others he is cool. 5/5

Purple Rain - My favorite song on the album. Is the song about God or something else? I really want to ask Prince. Too bad. The song is never ending and it is like Prince is just trying to drag it out so it never ends - and that is not a bad thing. 5/5

In conclusion as you can probally all ready tell I love this album. If you don't have it get it right now because it will make you a Prince fan if you aren't all ready one.
