I bought this CD original soundtrack several years back and I'm writing this only in response to other reviews that fail to consider that Lubin used every piece on this CD at one time or another in the 96 episodes of "One Step Beyond." Could he have included "scarier" music throughout this collection? Definitely! There is a very creepy piece of music written for "The Room Upstairs," aired March 21, 1961; and for the episode, "Bloodflower," which aired May 16, 1961, when its central character played by actor Larry Gates, is in the cemetery. A very very creepy piece of music. And there is a wonderfully creepy piece in the episode, "Justice," aired March 7th, 1961. One of my all-time favorite pieces of tv film music, which when I heard it as a boy of eleven, it just gave me the shivers. But though these scary pieces of music were left off, we have to remember the original LP was issued in 1960, well before these episodes aired. There...Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars One More Step Beyond?, December 3, 1999

I recently purchased this CD along with the new 40th anniversary Twilight Zone 4 CD box. While the opening "Fear" and "Weird" are truly creepy pieces, I kind of felt like the rest was just 50s TV stuff and not all that "Beyond." It's really not much compared to the new excellent TZ CD. Obviously this is a straight reissue of an old early 60s album. It would be cooler if they included more of a description of the conditions and inspiration that composer Harry Lubin worked under, and definately more scary pieces would be appreciated. It's still pretty neat on the whole, though, and if you're a old time SF fan or classic TV fan this probably belongs in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain beautiful music!, October 14, 2001

With Alcoa Presents (One Step Beyond) barely a fading memory, I am very thankful that Harry Lubin's beautiful music lives on with this CD. Ranging from the haunting "Fear", through the delightful "Trip to the Far East," each melody brings back wonderful memories. It is difficult to believe that these compositions were written only to accompany a TV drama - on a weekly basis! Harry Lubin has faded from our scene as well but though we lost a great talent (composer, conductor, and arranger) his beautiful melodies can be played again and again.
