This is a wonderful compilation of snippets from various off-the-beaten path original recordings.
The exerpt from THIS IS CINERAMA is taken from a suite recorded by Max Steiner himself and included on the Laserlight budget disc featuring the nearly complete original score for KING KONG. The Alex North-conducted SOUTH SEAS ADVENTURE (complete original soundtrack recording minus native music tracks) and CHEYENNE AUTUMN have both been available on the disc ALEX NORTH AT THE MOVIES. Bernard Herrmann's disorienting synthesiser-driven SISTERS has been out on Southern Cross Records but is difficult to find. I was lucky enough some years ago to run across it in a second-hand bookstore. THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS and Friedhofer's faintly Copland-esque and particularly American neo-romantic THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (the best ever of scores which hardly anyone knows, even though it won the Oscar in 1946) have long been out on Preamble discs.
