Product Review

"In Between Dreams" is the multi-platinum selling smash from Jack Johnson. The album features classics like "Banana Pancakes", "Better Together" and "Good People".

For a man who gets his biggest kicks surfing the waves and strumming his guitar on a lonely beach in native Hawaii, singer-songwriter Jack Johnson has carved out quite a remarkable career on the mainland. His 2003 album, On and On, debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and subsequently went platinum on the back of hit single "The Horizon Has Been Defeated." The follow-up, meanwhile, seems destined to shine even brighter. The drifting chords and soft voice are still in place, only now Johnson's instinct for melody has sharpened alongside his ability to self-edit. These small concessions make third album, In Between Dreams, his most conspicuous, particularly on tracks like the three-minute relationship drama, "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing," and "Breakdown," a song he originally recorded for Handsome Boy Modeling School's White People album remade here to reveal its full stripped-down loveliness. Imagine all the coconuts it will buy. -- Aidin Vaziri

it it was possible, i would have given this cd 6 stars... it's been on constant repeat in the background ever since i got this cd the day it came out (i pre-ordered it as soon as i heard word of a new jack johnson cd...gasp!)

i have liked jack for several years, ever since his debut album "brushfire fairytales." since then, he's also come out with "on and on," (making this his 3rd) and i honestly would never be able to choose my favorite. he's got a soothing, raspy voice and perfectly harmonizing guitar, and he has such a way with words: he doesn't just write about love (although his love songs will make your heart flutter!) but he also writes about worldly issues that get you thinking.

back to this new cd... wow. if you can't tell by now... i HIGHLY recommend it; it's one of those cds that's good the very first time you listen to it. highlights are "better together," (the tune is infectious and his voice is dreamy) "banana pancakes" (because it's such a cute...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album., December 23, 2005

The bottom line boys and girls, is that Jack Johnson is a flat out beast on an acoustic guitar. Every little thing he does on his axe seems perfected. I myself play guitar, and I can only hope to one day be as good as this dude. This album is by far his best. Not to say that "Brushfire Fairytales" and "On and On" aren't good, because they certainly are, but "In Between Dreams" is absolutely amazing.

Better Together-3/5- Not great, but okay. I just think the lyrics are sappy, but of course, the guitar part is good.

Never Know-5/5- My favorite on the whole album. The guitar sounds so amazing, it blows me away every single time. I cannot get tired of this song. Lyrics are awesome too.

Banana Pancakes-4/5- This song took me awhile to warm up to, but I like it a lot now. It's got a great guitar intro.

Good People-4/5- Really, really cool. I like the lyrics a lot.

No Other Way-3/5- It's not bad, I just don't like it as much. The guitar...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars I need this,old train to breakdown....., June 30, 2006

Looking at his previous works, In Between Dreams, Jack Johnson's third studio offering, seems to lack that special something to put over the top and be better than Brushfire Fairytales. But, it is a remarkably good cd. This cd has been in my car everyday since I got it, over a year ago.

Standout out tracks are the acoustic "Do You Remember", the beautiful, "Breakdown", the light and lovely, "Never Know" and "Sitting, Waiting, Wshing"

This album is certainly a must for any DMB fan, or easy, mellow fan. Wonderful
