In many ways, my opinion of the Final Fantasy XI: Piano Collection is a lot like the recent album by the Star Onions, Sanctuary. A lot of the tracks are very pleasant to listen to: "A New Horizon - Tavnazian Archipelago", "Ronfaure", "The Grand Duchy of Jeuno", "Whispers of the Gods", "Stargazing", "The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah", "The Cosmic Wheel". I find the rest a bit dull, especially since most of the source tracks for them were energetic. It sounds like they tried to recreate that tone playing it them on the piano, but in my opinion, it just doesn't work, especially in the case of "Fated Strife -Besieged-". Another complaint is, while the tracks that I do like sound nice, the album as a whole sounds a bit uninspired, as if the music is simply being played on the piano, rather than trying to do something interesting with it. Take, for instance, "The Forgotten City - Tavnazian Safehold" on the Star Onions' Music from the Other Side of Vana'diel album. They took the simple, if...Read more
