I can't believe they've released this as if it's new show. This is "So Long, 174th Street," an older musical that starred Robert Morse. Now it has a new title. And I fell for it. The original with Bobby Morse was much better.

The fresh style, and millimetrically calculated altogether, products this beautiful hit, the best time for Broadway. All is strong in this musical, the plot, quite naïve and traditional, the arrangements with acrobatic effects, it's a pleasure to listen to a sung phone conversation. The spirit of the twenties may reappear at any moment in America.

If you didn't catch this while it was running in New York, you missed out on one of the best shows NY had to offer -- the cast was outstanding, MUCH better than the original, especially with Robert Morse in the Lead (really? Robert Morse??? Not to mention he was WAY too old for that role)....Josh Grisetti was AMAZING in the Lead and was perfectly cast - he was actually nominated for several awards for that role, and received the Theatre World Award - That doesn't happen if the show is no good). Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker were hoots as the parents, and George Irving was downright hilarious. GREAT job, GREAT soundtrack - thanks so much!!!
