Steal the moon? A despicable act...and the obsession of one of the world's greatest super-villains Gru (Steve Carell) in Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's inaugural animated 3-D CGI feature, Despicable Me.
DESPICABLE ME: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK, featuring new music by Pharrell, Robin Thicke, Destinee & Paris, and others, plus a pair of classics from The Bee Gees ("You Should Be Dancing") and The Sylvers ("Boogie Fever").
Surrounded by an army of mischievous little minions and armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles, Gru vanquishes all who stand in his way. That is, until the day he encounters the immense will of three little girls who look at him and see something that no one else has: a potential Dad.
In addition to composing the film's orchestral score for the DESPICABLE ME: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK, Pharrell also takes the lead on four tracks he wrote and produced, beginning with the title tune, "Despicable Me," and including "Fun, Fun, Fun," "Prettiest Girls," and "Rocket's Theme." With superstar Robin Thicke, Pharrell co-wrote and produced "My Life", and "I'm on a Roll," by sisters Destinee & Paris (formerly of Interscope's Clique Girlz). Pharrell also wrote and produced tracks for the film's mischievous minions ("Minions Mambo", co-written with Lupe Fiasco), and littlest orphan, Agnes ("The Unicorn Song"). The album is rounded out by two vintage No. 1 disco hits from 1976, by The Bee Gees ("You Should Be Dancing") and The Sylvers ("Boogie Fever").

Both of my kids - even the baby - know almost all the songs by heart. My 4 year old spazzes out upon hearing the opening strains of "Fun Fun Fun". The baby girl lights up whenever she hears us singing "You are the prettiest girls" cause she knows we're singing about her! And "My Life" (and the bonus track Spanish version "Sonar") is basically my family's new national anthem. Kudos to Pharell and his Neptunes squad for making a joyous piece of life affirming music! Here's to many years of playing this album on road trips, visits to Disneyland and birthday parties! 11 of 13 people found the following review helpful: By Akhenatonio "Akhenatonio" (Poughkeepsie, NY United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Despicable Me (MP3 Download) I knew I wanted the soundtrack the day I saw the movie. I found myself actually listening to the music that was accompanying the entertaining visuals of the movie. There are times where I hear the music in a movie, and even though I general think it sounds good, I wouldn't think to get the soundtrack. This was different. Songs like "Fun, Fun, Fun", "My Life", and "Prettiest Girls" are really good songs, including vocals from Pharrel and Robin Thicke. One of my favorite songs is Rocket Theme, where the words, "Come on Rocket, we're going to the Moon" is a great song for your kids to wind down to after a busy day. While listening to this soundtrack, I envision my young kids enjoying an album, maybe on a road trip, that is not full of inappropriate language, but rather full of beautiful melodic rhythms, and old school throwbacks. A "kids" album not sacrificing it's upbeat tempo, with new songs not revamped ones, for cool kids (and adults) of 21st...Read more 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Despicable Me (Audio CD) This is a nice collection of music from the movie, however, I was a bit disappointed that it did not contain a little bit of the pure instrumental content from the show. It is basically a 'canned' collection of pre-sung songs that are used in the movie.
That set aside, it is still a good collection. The music is all uplifting and contains peppy lyrics and great fast pace beats. This is good music to do aerobics to, so enjoy. |
